Short answer

Shutters need space for frames and panels; blinds need space for a roll, folds or stack.

Think about the window when it is open

A shutter adds a frame and hinged panels to the opening. Its louvres adjust daylight while the panels stay in place; opening the panels is a separate movement that needs clearance. A blind can roll, fold, lift or draw aside, with its own space needed for the fabric or slat stack.

What should remain in view?

Shutters create a more architectural, framed appearance. Fabric blinds can introduce pattern and softness; slatted blinds give adjustable light without the same panel arrangement. Consider the reveal, handles, opening windows and nearby furniture rather than choosing from a cropped photograph alone.

Compare privacy and darkness separately

Both slats and louvres can be angled, but sightlines change with the window and the viewer's position. A shutter is not automatically blackout, and a blind's darkness depends on its material as well as the gaps around it. In a bedroom, tell Gemini how sensitive you are to light and ask about the proposed fitting.

Care and the room conditions matter

Solid-looking materials still have specific care and moisture requirements. Fabrics, coatings, slats and hinges need different treatment. Discuss the actual material for a kitchen, bathroom or high-use space and consider whether you can comfortably reach the surfaces for cleaning.

Make a window-specific choice

There is no reliable universal winner on cost, comfort or longevity without a specification. Gemini can advise, measure and professionally fit the appropriate format. Compare a Venetian blind with a shutter to understand their movement before asking about your own window.
